Oinkster with a so-so Pastrami, but a really good BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich

Slow Fast Food is Oinkster's mantra for their pastrami, burgers, and fries. Look for this sign and a crowd almost any night at Oinkster. After watching the Food Network's Diner's, Drive-in's, and Dive's episode of Oinkster, I knew I had to try this nearby joint. This burger stand, yet a bit more than just a burger stand, seems like any local fast food restaurant. You order at the counter, find a table, and bathrooms outside - it's like any hole-in-the-wall. Yet, I liked the spartan amenities, since it interested me. Our group ordered The House Cured Pastrami, the Oinkster Pastrami, the Classic Burger, and the BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich. The House Cured Pastrami (Our pastrami is cured for two weeks, rubbed with a special spice blend and smoked with applewood, for $7.99) was a bit ordinary. When it comes to comfort food, almost nothing compares to good ole hearty American Southern cuisine. As much as we hate it, lard, butter, and grease are all necessary evils and ingredients for wholesome and tasty foods from the South. Bold with taste, it is also unfortunately quite filling. But every once and awhile, you’ve got to splurge and enjoy some of the finer things in life – and foods is a little that we should all have. Beef Noodle Soup at Master Kong Chef’s Table 康师傅私房牛肉面, Shanghai

I was going to say that I don’t usually do fast food joints, but on reflection – I have In-N-Out and Tommy’s, so doing Master Kong’s was not a stretch. This noodle chain, specializes in beef soup noodles. Beef Soup Noodles 牛肉麵 are a favorite in Taiwan as well as other parts in China. This is simple dish, with beef and noodles, with a variety of spices, is often copied, but rarely mastered. WIth large cubes of beef, depending on the quality of cut, the meat is stewed for hours till tender with each chef’s own seasoning. The noodles, in my humble opinion, is best served al dente, creating the right mouth desired texture. At Master Kong’s they serve this dish traditionally with side dishes, including sliced cucumbers – to cool down a spicy broth, pickled mushrooms – to satisfy local Shanghainese, and tea leaf eggs – to provide a savory component to off set the spiciness.
